Matthew Shorten BEnvMgt. RABQSA International,

Managing Director
Matthew brings extensive experience and leadership to the
Balance Carbon team and clientele, developed over 15 plus years in
various positions with industry and government in environmental
policy and advisory roles and as a report verification, compliance
and environmental auditor certified by RABQSA International. Matt
has worked with hundreds of public and private sector organisations
across Australia to build energy and greenhouse gas inventories and
management systems under compliance and voluntary carbon reporting
schemes, environmental management standards and sustainability
programs. He is registered as a Greenhouse & Energy Auditor
(Category 1 - technical) under Section 75A of the National
Greenhouse & Energy Reporting Act, 2007 and has led and
participated in teams in the development and assurance of numerous
product greenhouse gas lifecycle analysis projects, corporate NGER
reports and CFI projects across mining, waste, construction,
aviation and local government sectors.
Balance Carbon, which he co-founded in 2006 is recognised by the
United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) as one of the first 100
participants of the Climate Neutral Network (CN Net). This
initiative promotes global action and involvement for low carbon
economies and societies.
Professor Anthony Cheshire BSc PhD MAICD
Executive Chairman
Anthony has worked for the last 25 years as an environmental
scientist including roles in private industry, government, and the
higher education sector.
Over the last twelve years he has held a number of executive
management roles including as Head of the Department of Botany at
the University of Adelaide, as Chief Scientist (Aquatic Sciences)
with the South Australian Research and Development Institute
(SARDI) and as Director of Research and Development (SARDI).
Anthony holds a number of key positions including as a Director
of the Cooperative Research Centre for Environmental Biotechnology
and Executive Chair of Balance Carbon Pty Ltd. More recently he has
accepted roles as a member of a number of Ministerial Advisory
Committees including as a member of the SA Natural Resource
Management Council, Deputy Presiding Member of the SA Marine Parks
Council, Chair of the SA Fisheries Research Advisory Board and
Chair of the Scientific Working Group for Marine Parks and Marine
Planning. Anthony is a member of a range of science based
professional associations and is also a Member of the Australian
Institute of Company Directors.
Mr Andrew Watson
Director
Andrew joined the Balance Carbon Board following the successful
capital raising with Blue Sky Private Equity. Andrew is the
Managing Director of ResourceCo Carbon Pty Ltd which is part of the
ResourceCo Group of companies. Andrew's professional background is
in financial services, including over 12 years in equity capital
markets and mergers & acquisition sectors with leading
international investment banks, BNP Paribas and Deutsche Bank
Australia. Immediately prior to joining ResourceCo, Andrew was an
Executive Director (Merger & Acquisitions) with Ernst &
Young.
Having assisted ResourceCo structure a range of successful CFI
projects and transactions, Andrew is well placed to contribute
to the growth and future direction of Balance Carbon.
Mr Alex Mcnab, B.Econ&Law, MBA.
Director
Alex represents Blue Sky Private Equity on the Board of Balance
Carbon. As Strategy Director at Blue Sky Private Equity, Alex is
responsible for sourcing investment opportunities, negotiating deal
terms, building relationships across the investment portfolio and
providing strategic and operational guidance to investee
companies.
Prior to joining Blue Sky Private Equity, Alex was with Bain &
Company, a global strategy consulting firm. During his eight
years at Bain, Alex formulated corporate and business unit
strategies, led performance improvement projects, and influenced
management teams to drive results. He worked with clients across a
range of industries, including financial services,
telecommunications, retail, consumer products, and
technology.
Alex has a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from the
University of Queensland, and a Masters of Business Administration
from INSEAD. He is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of
Company Directors (AICD).
Ms Debra Liang B. Env. Policy & Mgt, Dip.
Lang
Energy & Emissions Advisor / Auditor
Debra graduated from the University of Adelaide where she
completed a Bachelor of Environmental Policy & Management and a
Diploma in Languages (Mandarin). Since joining BalanceCarbon, Debra
has worked on a diverse range of projects such as: building Energy
& Greenhouse Gas Inventories, provided education and training
on carbon accounting and the Australian Carbon Market, she has
undertaken independent assurance and verification audits and also
provided advisory services to clients on the National Greenhouse
and Energy Reporting Act and the National Carbon Offset Standard.
Debra has independently delivered a range of Energy &
Greenhouse Gas projects to a range of clients including publically
listed companies, SME's, State and Local Government.
Her interest in innovation and clean technology has led her
to roll's within Origin Energy, Global Energy Horizons Corporation
(British Columbia, Canada) and within the Public Sector in the
South Australian Government with Renewables SA.
Dr Grant Westphalen Ph.D. B.Sc. (Hons).
Technical Associate
Grant Westphalen has 16 years experience in environmental science
and greenhouse gas accounting and auditing. Grant
provides technical support across a range of areas including
accounting methods, information management, data management and
lifecycle analysis. Grant has provided audit and advisory services
across a range of industry sectors including civil construction,
waste, aviation and local government. He also works
extensively with the c3online development team as a systems
technician.
Mrs Casey Mortlock
Operations and Office Manager
Casey Mortlock has over 10 years experience in financial
services, including manufacturing and mining industries.
